MARVEL Relaunch Plans
News on MARVEL'S Relaunch . . .
Well we're getting closer and closer to the mecca of all mecca's if you're a comic book fan or sci-fi geek, the San Diego Comic Con is almost upon us. In just about two weeks, the city will be consumed with all things geek. Tons of stars, press, fans, and most of all . . . news will be heading our way v.i.a. the Con's features and seminars. One tidbit that has already leaked is MARVEL Comics planned relaunch of sorts.
So far news is still sketchy, but this doesn't seem to be a total reboot of all it's lineup. More a chance to start a couple new titles and re-organize some familiar ones. It has already been announced that making a return, would be Jean Grey also known as MARVEL GIRL. Whether this has something to do with MARVEL'S current ongoing mini-series "AVENGERS vs. X-MEN" and Grey's former body possessing entity PHOENIX returning in that series is unknown, an odd coincidence though.
Media publication Entertainment Weekly was one of the sources that broke the news on their website this week. More news leaked from the upcoming Comic Con as reported by a few media outlets, there will be no less than three new titles announced for the fall with the possibilities for more very high.
There will be an AVENGERS/X-MEN hybrid, coming off the heels of their mini-series called UNCANNY AVENGERS slated for later this year. So far scribe Rick Remender has been linked to the title. A mesh of characters from both teams merged together still feeling the animosity from their recent battle lead by CAPTAIN AMERICA no doubt, with familiar members like WOLVERINE and THOR helping to flesh out the team.
Also a new AVENGERS title that is rumored to be bi-weekly written by popular MARVEL writer Jonathan Hickman telling more galaxy spanning stories using a vast array of team members old and new. This title is due out later this year too.
There is also rumored to be a Brian Michael Bendis penned X-MEN title set for the fall, late 2012. It is said to be a time travel title of sorts featuring the original five team members of CYCLOPS, MARVEL GIRL, BEAST, ICE MAN, and ANGEL traveling to the present day MARVEL timeline. How this will effect whats going on in the present, the counterparts already here, or the current continuity is unknown at this time. Keep eyes and ears open for more news on these topics and others coming out of this years San Diego Comic Con. And stay tuned to Marveluniverseunlimited.com for more coverage.

Issue of the Week . . .
Marvel Universe Unlimited's "Pick Of The Week" . . .
The "pick of the week" this week is MARVEL'S "AVENGERS vs. X-MEN #7." The 7th issue out of 12 in this mini-series. This issue is written by Matt Fraction with art by Oliver Coipel and Mark Morales. Colors by Laura Martin and Letters by Chris Eliopoulos. The price for this issue is $3.99. The issue will ship and be on store shelves and ready for digital download this week, July 3rd.
As we move into the second half of the epic mini-series, we see the PHOENIX Entity split between 5 X-MEN instead of the one everyone thought would receive the power. The Phoenix 5 as they're being called have begun to reshape the world in their utopian vision, no more crime, world peace, no weapons of mass destruction or wasted energy. But the AVENGERS are not convinced that the good deeds of the Phoenix 5 are sincere or that they can continue to control the entities power.
Still believing that Hope is the intended target and having a connection with the PHOENIX, the AVENGERS attempt to capture her once more, only to raise the ire of CYCLOPS, who has had enough and issues a mandate . . . "No More Avengers!" Pick up this issue and see if the Phoenix 5 will make good on CYCLOPS'S threat. It's AVENGERS vs. X-MEN#7 from MARVEL Comics.

Then there was ANT-MAN
The ANT-MAN cometh . . .
Comic-con 2012 will be coming to San Diego in roughly 2 weeks, and the buzz is soaring about upcoming projects from everywhere and everyone. MARVEL has a few panels set-up to announce upcoming projects and one we've been hearing about for some time now is the plan they have for their future film division. With IRON-MAN 3 filming now, CAPTAIN AMERICA and THOR both working on 2nd solo outings, and maybe even a "Guardians Of The Galaxy" project in the works before embarking on the much anticipated AVENGERS 2, there is still room for an ant, ANT-MAN that is.
Writer/Director Edgar Wright teased about some footage shot showing some ANT-MAN concepts to be shown at this years Comic-Con. Though it's not official yet, expect to see some leaks in the media in a couple weeks as the week long convention hits its stride in San Diego.
One time AVENGER and current reserve member, Dr. Henry Pym, a brilliant scientist developed a way to shrink himself to the size of and ant, keep his strength and abilities proportionate, and communicate with insects through a specially designed helmet he wore. This helmet also amplified his voice so that he can still be heard when ant size.
No word yet on who has the lead in the casting race for the roll, or who Wright used in his test reels, but the thought of an ANT-MAN film in the works can only lead to the speculation that he could be one of the new members in the next AVENGERS outing, as reported earlier, MARVEL is looking to add one, maybe two new faces to the team. Keep posted to Marveluniverseunlimited.com for more news on this and if you can't make it out to the show, the San Diego Comic Con will be televised on some cable networks and broadcast on satellite radio.
